SiD Framework and Omnibus Book

A comprehensive framework for designing whole systems toward regeneration

Creator and author. 12 years of research, writing, and field application.

SiD, Symbiosis in Development, is a framework for designing and steering whole systems toward regeneration. I have been building it since 1999, refining it project by project until the method held up in the field as well as it did on paper.

The book runs to 468 pages and took twelve years to write, design, and self-publish. It is released under Creative Commons, free to use, because a framework behind a paywall does not get adopted. It has been applied to urban redevelopment, industry, agriculture, and policy, and tested across roughly 700 projects.

A shared language for sustainability, so that words like circularity and resilience can finally be measured against each other.

The teaching lives on ThinkSiD, an open platform for practitioners who want to apply systems thinking to their own work. Most of the projects on this page were designed with SiD.
